Gabe's updates
Hi All,
Instead of the top happenings this week, I want to share some thoughts that I can't shake -- recurring thoughts about what's most important to get right with this organization.
First and foremost, I want to make it crystal clear how important it is to me that our members and leaders feel heard--not lip service--really heard. There are many things that we can't control, but one thing we can do is commit to excellence in communication with one another. I hope to lead by example to the best of my ability in this area. Please hold me accountable to this. I want to know how I can do better.
Second, I believe it's imperative that we find an effective way to create real structural change in our healthcare system. It's time to prove the model that we can come together with our shared mission to restore & protect the patient-physician relationship, and do something with our resources to disrupt the status quo.
Third, the prior-authorization reform project is not just about prior auth. It's bigger than that. It's the best way we know of to test and learn from our strategy. No doubt prior auth makes us angry. No doubt it wastes time. And, no doubt it takes away from the most important things we are here to do as physicians caring for our patients. But, most of all it was chosen because it is actionable, winnable, and a gateway to showing that we can reclaim a sense of agency that we can work together and change our system for the better. It's a model to prove that this organization can get things done.
It is with deep appreciation for all of you that I close this update with two requests:
1) Share your voice and your opinions on our Mighty Network openly, honestly, and frequently.
2) Please consider going "all in" with us on supporting the prior authorization reform project. The more we show that we can stand in unity on something, the more dangerous we are to the status quo. And, that's exactly why we're here -- to raise expectations that thriving patient-physician relationships are not a nice to have, but a necessity for a hopeful future for all of us.
All my best 😀,
-Gabe
