This is week two of my Twitter Spaces experiment. I was delighted to be joined by Scott Muir, MD, a child, adolescent, and general psychiatrist with over 200+ academic citations, faculty at the Mayo clinic, and author of a manual on therapy for suicidal teens. Scott is also passionate about disrupting prior auth and wrote a brilliant two-part series on Substack that can be found here. I hope you will read it.
I plan to continue this series as we prepare for our follow-up panel event with ACP on October 3. Thank you Dr. Muir for sharing your important insights and challenging us to educate ourselves on the incentives of the business of medicine. It breaks my heart that winning for a company can look like making healthcare more expensive and people more sick. And, no, that’s not a conspiracy theory.
Please check out Scott’s work. He is an inspiration, and I was so happy to have this conversation. My favorite takeaway was his idea for automating the advocacy process for how to contact your State Attorney General when prior auth violates the law. Missed us today?
In closing, I want to remind you of Medicine Forward’s top priorities of 1) leading as a wellbeing-first organization, and 2) disrupting prior authorization. For my wellbeing, I’m not going to do any more Medicine Forward volunteer work for the rest of the day. I’m also going to get outside and go for a nice bike ride.
What can this organization do for your wellbeing?
Onward!
