Emily's "Shame in Medicine" project launched today
Honored to participate and delighted to share this news today. I hope you will check it out. This is so important. This is how we change culture.
-Gabe
Dear Gabriel,
Emily here with The Nocturnists, writing to thank you again for contributing your voice to our Shame in Medicine project. We heard from over 200 healthcare workers from around the world for this series, and were inspired and humbled by the vulnerability, honesty, insight and generosity of those who shared with us. The fact that we received such a tremendous response to our call only reinforced for us the importance and timeliness of shame as a topic.
You are one of over 50 clinicians to be featured in the series. While each story alone is incredibly powerful, hearing your voices alongside each other adds even more meaning, as they build toward a much larger narrative about the realities of medical culture. In other words — the whole is definitely more than the sum of its parts!
We're proud to announce that the series, which now has the official title, Shame in Medicine: The Lost Forest as well as its own dedicated website, launches today with Episode 1: "Hello, Shame". We've created a total of 10 episodes, which will drop every week through November. Our producers Sam and Molly have done an incredible job bringing this series to fruition, and we can't wait for you to hear it!
As a featured contributor and treasured member of our community, we invite you to check out the resources we've been developing as part of our impact campaign including:
Sample episode discussion guides
Tips for hosting conversations about shame in your communities
Further resources to learn about shame in the context of medicine
Portal for sharing any reactions or reflections to this series
Outreach Kit with social/newsletter assets for sharing
We hope that you'll share the series with your friends and colleagues and help this work reach as many of our fellow clinicians as possible. We anticipate that this project will continue to grow and evolve and we welcome any thoughts or suggestions about future directions. In the meantime, if you'd like to connect personally with someone on our team to discuss the series, your story, outreach ideas, or anything else, don't hesitate to contact us at shame@thenocturnists.com.
Again, thank you so much for your contributions to this project! We hope you find this series to be as meaningful as we do, and a useful tool for conversation and culture change!
Warm regards,
Emily and The Nocturnists Team
